The Clear Lake Food Pantry is in need of volunteers to help on their distributions days which are every Monday and Thursday from 7:30-11am. The Pantry is located at Clear Lake Baptist Church, 15700 Space Center Blvd, Houston 77062.

We are continuing to serve our Good Neighbors at Rancho del Rey and Town Village mobile home parks through “Ministry by Mail.” Each week that would be a serve week during non-pandemic times, we are writing a note of encouragement, prayer, and scripture, along with ten dollars towards their grocery needs, and mailing to families of the regular attenders of our Bible Study and Grocery Pick up. If you would like to participate in this effort by supporting one family (or more) from the neighborhood, please reach out and we will provide you with the name and address of a family to walk beside.

Give the gift of life as we serve the community in partnership with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Sunday, December 19, in room 202 of the auditorium building at the Egret Bay Campus, Blood Center personnel will be ready to assist you in making a difference! Opportunity 1: Our CARE TEAM needs a friendly volunteer to pray with Neighbors who are waiting for assistance, help them to fill out any forms they may need assistance with, and elevate the mood of the room. This generally happens in conjunction with our food pantry. Monday and Tuesday: 10am to 2pm, Wednesday and Thursday 1pm to 4:30pm. We are looking for volunteers who will serve at least one day per week.

Opportunity 2: Our pantry needs a friendly and physically strong volunteer with a large vehicle to pick up donated groceries from local supermarkets and restaurants for our food pantry. This generally happens in the morning around 10am, Monday through Thursday. The volunteer would have to load the items at the grocery store and help unload the items when they arrive at the Lighthouse.

Opportunity 1: The MI Lewis Center has many different opportunities for volunteers:

  • Mobile Food Distribution – 20-30 volunteers the 3rd Saturday of every month to assist with food packaging and putting in clients’ cars.
  • Senior Food Delivery – Drivers needed on the the 4th Saturday of every month to make deliveries to area shut in seniors.
  • Retail Pick-Up – Drivers needed, generally between 8-10am to pick up products from area Kroger, Targe, Walmart, Olive Garden and Auntie Ann’s, using the agency van.
  • Food Pantry Assistant – Currently the pantry is closed on Monday. We would like to have 2 volunteers on Monday so that we can serve clients that day too! Also, we need substitute for days that our current volunteers can not make it.
  • Food Warehouse Assistant – Volunteers needed to bundle bags of food, to check dates of donated food, to build Senior Food boxes and more!
  • Client Check In Assistant – Our volunteers at the front desk are the first encounter with many clients. These volunteers work closely with the clients gathering needed information to prepare them for their casework visit.
  • Office Aide – We need someone to assist once a week with various jobs such as filing, answering phones, organizing in the office and making copies.
  • Agency Beautification – We own a large piece of property in the back of our agency that we want to turn into a garden of spices and herbs that can be distributed to our clients. We are looking for a group to adopt this area to maintain the small garden. There is also a flower bed in the front of the agency that needs to be maintained so that clients have a wonderful experience walking into the building.
  • Self-Sufficiency Learning Center Assistant – This Center is where clients can learn interview skills, job readiness, resume writing and much more. We need individuals who can teach classes these skills in a class or even on a one-on-one basis.
  • Seasonal assistance with Thanksgiving Baskets and School Supply Distribution.

Opportunity 2: Everyday Pantry Needs

  • Hamburger Helper
  • Cake Mix
  • Crackers
  • Bagged Rice
  • Breakfast Cereals in a Box
  • Breakfast or Energy Bars
  • Condiments in Plastic Containers

Opportunity 3: MI Lewis is looking for a partner to help with care packages for our senior deliveries for Christmas. Need care packages by December 8, 2021. We need 50 care packages.
Items that could go into care packages:
blankets, lotion, cards, puzzle book large print, pens, shampoo, toothpaste, socks, chapstick, hairbrush, nail file

Opportunity 4: Each year MI Lewis collects items and delivers 200 Thanksgiving baskets to people in the community. The items are needed by November 7. Please note: the turkeys have already been generously donated, however, the following items are needed:

  • 200-29oz sweet potatoes
  • 400- cans of cranberry sauce
  • 400 – cans of corn
  • 400-boxes of jiffy corn bread mix
  • 200 packages of rolls
  • 200 pumpkin pies

The Mercy Tree provides God’s word and a meal to the homeless people in the Clear Lake area. Individuals, families, or small groups can volunteer to provide a meal at one of the 4 local churches that provide space for The Mercy Tree. Planning ahead is necessary because dates quickly fill up often months in advance. Open dates can be found on the website (www.themercytree.org) by clicking on the volunteer tab and scrolling through the calendar. When you click on the date, the time and location will appear. Email volunteer@themercytree.org to sign up for the open date. Currently, the following summer dates are open: November 17 and December 10, 13, 16, 30.

Please cook or purchase a meal, and provide cold drinks for 20 individuals. Use disposable food containers and provide paper plates, napkins, and plastic ware.

Opportunity 1: Provide (shop and deliver) basic household items,
such as outside door mats, shower curtain liners, cutting boards,
bathroom plungers, etc. for the twelve residential homes.

Opportunity 2: Provide VISA Gift Cards for residents’ Medical Center parking needs.

Opportunity 3: Houston Open – Astros Golf Foundation (Benefits PJH)

  • When: Tuesday-Sunday, November 10-14, 2021 – times vary
  • Where: Memorial Park Gold Course – Houston
  • Needed: Volunteers, ages 21 or older, are being recruited now for registration, greeters, day care, shuttle services, programs and various tasks during the tournament. Interested volunteers should contact PJH directly at their office  713-944-6569 to provide their information along with a picture. Volunteers must be willing to work 3 shifts (6-8 hours each) over the 5-day period.

Opportunity 4: “Adopt” a PJH residential family for the holidays
You will be assigned a PJH family and provided a gift list for each
family member. From the lists, you can buy gifts and a food basket
for the holiday meal.

Opportunity 1: “Adopt” a foster family that needs a little extra love and encouragement. Put together a family fun night basket and have a special meal delivered to help them focus on fun and connecting during a challenging time.

Opportunity 2: As our foster families receive new placements we like to bless them with meals throughout the week giving them more time to connect.

Four years out from Harvey, we still send teams into the community Tuesday through Saturday to rebuild homes impacted by that hurricane.  However, since the Winter Storm in February, we have also been working in homes impacted by the cold.

We meet at the 4B Warehouse at 15 27th Street N in Texas City at 8 a.m. for prayer and instructions and then go out on assignment.  There is a job for everyone – no construction experience is necessary, just a willingness to help our community.   To register please go to our website.
